Arteta Eyes January Arsenal Transfer Boost Despite Six-Point Lead
Arteta's Transfer Plans & Rodrygo to Arsenal Verdict

Despite sitting six points clear at the Premier League summit, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has made it clear he is still open to strengthening his squad during the January transfer window.

Arteta's Active Transfer Stance

The Gunners extended their lead over Manchester City and Aston Villa with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Bournemouth on the weekend. While the returns of Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Kai Havertz have bolstered the squad, Arteta insists the club must remain vigilant for opportunities to improve.

Speaking in December, the Spaniard stated: "We're going to be really aware of the situation and the timescale of certain players. We have to be actively looking, and then can we do it or not? That's a different story, but our job is to be always very prepared because something can happen."

Declan Rice Hailed as World's Best

Arteta's admiration for his current squad was evident as he lavished praise on Declan Rice following the midfielder's match-winning brace against Bournemouth. Rice, who missed the previous game through injury, was instrumental in the victory that solidified Arsenal's position at the top.

When asked if the 26-year-old England star belongs in conversations about the world's best players in his position, Arteta was unequivocal. "For me, yes. For me, the ones that we have are the best. Declan is constantly adding things to his game," he said. "He’s such a pivotal player for us." Rice's performances have reportedly attracted interest from European giants Real Madrid.

Alan Shearer's Rodrygo Verdict

With Arteta confirming an openness to new arrivals, speculation has reignited around a potential move for Real Madrid forward Rodrygo. The Brazilian winger, who has only started six La Liga games this season under Xabi Alonso, was linked with a move away last summer.

Premier League legend Alan Shearer has weighed in, suggesting the player would be an excellent fit for English football. "I think that Rodrygo would do very well in the Premier League - he's an excellent player," Shearer said via Betfair. "If that is the case, that he’s not happy at Real Madrid, then there won't be a shortage of offers for him to come and play in the Premier League."

Shearer believes several top English clubs would be in the running should Rodrygo seek a move, potentially putting Arsenal on alert as they consider their January transfer window options.
