Viktor Gyokeres has played down speculation surrounding his future as Arsenal and Chelsea reportedly prepare to battle for his signature. The Sporting Lisbon striker, who moved from Coventry City for £17m a year ago, has scored 36 goals and provided 14 assists this season, triggering interest from top European clubs.
Arsenal have emerged as contenders alongside Chelsea, with Portuguese outlet A Bola claiming the north Londoners are leading the chase. However, Sporting will only accept his €100m (£85m) release clause in full, as they are unwilling to sell for less. Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, and clubs in Spain and Italy are also monitoring the 25-year-old.
Speaking on international duty with Sweden, Gyokeres said: 'I don’t think much about it now actually, I want to win the league and the cup with Sporting – that’s where I’m putting all my energy and strength.' He added that being linked with big clubs is 'a sign I’ve been performing well, but it’s not something I take too seriously.'
The Swede admitted his release clause represents 'a lot of money' but remains relaxed about his future, stating: 'I really like Sporting and I don’t feel stressed at all for what’s to come.' Sporting may offer him a new contract with an increased release clause of €120m (£103m), while Champions League qualification – currently within reach as league leaders – could help convince him to stay.
Gyokeres has been the standout player in the Portuguese league, with 22 goals and 10 assists in 24 league appearances – contributing every 67 minutes.
