Arsenal have taken the first decisive step in a major transfer battle, making formal contact to secure the signature of Lille's highly-rated midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi. The Gunners are aiming to steal a march on their Premier League and European rivals with a potential move as early as the January window.

According to reports emerging from France, Arsenal's sporting director Andrea Berta is spearheading the operation and has already opened discussions with the 18-year-old's representatives. The north London club are prepared to table a substantial offer of €45 million, equivalent to approximately £39.4 million, for the French Under-21 international.
The club's strategy appears clear: act swiftly to avoid a protracted summer auction. While a transfer at the end of the season had been widely anticipated, Arsenal's hierarchy, including manager Mikel Arteta, are keen to get business done early. Arteta recently hinted at the club's readiness, stating, "We always have to be prepared... we're certainly going to be alert and we know where the risk can come in terms of the squad, and be ready just in case we have to do something."

Lille, however, are in a strong negotiating position. The Ligue 1 club have proactively extended Bouaddi's contract until 2029 and are under no pressure to sell cheaply. It is understood they would demand a fee in excess of €50 million (£43.8m) to even consider parting with their prized asset.
Bouaddi's Future and Arsenal's Youth Strategy
The player himself has remained coy about his future, focusing on the current campaign with Lille. After signing his new deal, Bouaddi commented, "I am focused on this season and we have things to fight for. As I also said to the president, at the end of the season, there will be a choice to be made, and anything can happen."
This pursuit aligns with a noticeable shift in Arsenal's recruitment model towards securing elite young talent. The club recently confirmed pre-contract agreements for Ecuadorian teenage twins Edwin and Holger Quintero, who will join in 2027.
