The summer transfer window is in full swing as Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United all look to strengthen ahead of the new season. Arsenal are set to make a move for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, hoping to wrap up a deal before pre-season. The Gunners have reportedly agreed personal terms with Bruno Guimaraes and there have been updates on pursuits of Morgan Rogers and Christos Tzolis. Ederson is set to sign a new contract at Atalanta after Manchester United pulled the plug on a deal, while United have set their sights on Manu Kone, Joao Gomes, Carlos Baleba or Alex Scott to bolster their midfield. Chelsea are set to officially unveil Xabi Alonso amid working on deals for Pep Chavarria and Maxence Lacroix. Tottenham have already spent over £200 million this summer but remain interested in Eli Junior Kroupi and Omar Marmoush. Liverpool are undeterred by Paris Saint-Germain's asking price for Bradley Barcola and may now have a free run at the France international.
Arsenal to make Alvarez move
Arsenal are hopeful of wrapping up a deal for Julian Alvarez before the start of pre-season, according to The Independent. The report claims that the Gunners have been boosted in their pursuit of the Argentina striker as competition from elsewhere has regressed. Atletico have no interest in doing business with LaLiga rivals Barcelona, while Paris Saint-Germain are said to be content with their attacking options. Arsenal have set a limit of £90 million, but Atletico want north of £100 million.
Ederson set for new deal as Man Utd move falls through
Atalanta are set to hand Ederson a new contract after his transfer to Manchester United fell through. He is into the final year of his current deal and had been due to join United before the World Cup, but the move fell through last week. Now, Atalanta are offering him a bumper new five-year deal to remain in Bergamo until 2031.
Arsenal to accelerate Tzolis push
Arsenal will boost their pursuit of Christos Tzolis if Leandro Trossard signs for Besiktas. The winger is closing in on a move to the Turkish Pro League, with talks reportedly ongoing over personal terms. Per Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners are keen to bring in Club Brugge’s Tzolis as Trossard’s replacement, and the player is happy to wait for Arsenal’s call.
Inter push for Stones
Inter Milan are continuing in their push to sign John Stones, who is a free agent after leaving Manchester City. Per reports in Italy, contact has been made between the parties on Sunday for the player, who has been tipped as a key target should Benjamin Pavard leave the San Siro.
Forlan lands managerial promotion
Diego Forlan has been promoted to head coach of the Uruguayan national team. The former Manchester United striker was already working as head coach of the nation’s under-20s, a role he will continue in for the next few months while also heading up the senior team. Uruguay are fresh off the back of a deeply underwhelming World Cup, where Marcelo Bielsa was dismissed after they crashed out in the group stage.
Inter prep fresh Jones bid
Inter Milan are set to lodge a fresh bid for Curtis Jones. The Serie A side saw a €25 million (£21.3 million) bid immediately rejected earlier this summer, but are ready to try their luck again. Per TalkSport, Liverpool are happy to keep the player if their valuation is not met.
Newcastle's Manzambi move hijacked
Aston Villa have successfully hijacked Newcastle’s move to sign Johan Manzambi from Freiburg. The Swiss striker had been in late-stage talks with the Magpies, but reports from St James’ Park suggest the player was never fully sold on the move. Per Sky Germany, Villa were in the race from the off and have now won Manzambi over, with a medical due to take place in the coming days.
Everton budget for Grealish revealed
Everton will spend no more than £10 million to sign Jack Grealish this summer. That is according to a report from Football Insider, who add that David Moyes appreciates Grealish’s talent and experience but baulks at Manchester City’s £50 million asking price. Grealish spent last season on loan at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, notching eight goal involvements in 20 league appearances.
Lazio eye Rodriguez
Lazio could make a shock move to bring James Rodriguez back to Europe this summer. The former Real Madrid and Everton man is a free agent after his spell with Minnesota United ended, and after impressing at the World Cup, Lazio are keen to bring him to Rome. Per reports in Italy, he is one of several targets on the club’s shortlist.
New Strasbourg head coach confirmed
Strasbourg have confirmed the appointment of Hugo Oliveira as the club’s new head coach, replacing Gary O’Neil. Chelsea’s BlueCo-owned sister club were left without a head coach when O’Neil departed at the end of last season to take over at Ipswich. A goalkeeping coach by trade, the 47-year-old Oliveira only took on his first full-time managerial role in 2024, helming Portuguese side Famalicao to an impressive fifth-place finish in Liga Portugal. Former Celtic boss Wilfried Nancy is also said to have been considered as an option, but BlueCo plumped for Oliveira and reportedly paid Famalicao a €2 million (£1.7 million) fee to secure his services.
