Arsenal have made contact with Newcastle United over a potential move for midfielder Sandro Tonali, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The 26-year-old Italy international was a target for the Gunners in January, but no deal materialised. Now, Arsenal have renewed their interest as they look to bolster their squad depth for a season expected to feature around 60 matches.
Manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta are reportedly keen to add Tonali to a midfield that already includes Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Christian Norgaard. Newcastle's lack of European football next season could encourage Tonali to seek a move, with Manchester United also said to be interested.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have been forced to abandon their pursuit of Juventus winger Kenan Yildiz. The Serie A club informed the Gunners in no uncertain terms that the 19-year-old Turkey international is not for sale this summer. Yildiz, valued at around £86 million, had been identified as a key target to strengthen Arsenal's left-wing options.
As a result, Arsenal are now exploring alternative targets, including Athletic Club's Nico Williams, AC Milan's Rafael Leao and PSG's Bradley Barcola. The club are expected to be active in the summer transfer window, having already spent a club-record £250 million last season to secure their first Premier League title in 22 years.
