Arsenal are reportedly preparing an opening bid for RB Leipzig forward Antonio Nusa, following a hamstring injury to Christos Tzolis. The injury occurred during Tzolis's latest appearance for Greece in the Nations League earlier this week.
Tzolis injury blow
The Gunners made four new signings in the recent summer transfer window, with Tzolis joined by Ezri Konsa, Bruno Guimaraes and Illan Meslier in moving to the Emirates Stadium. Tzolis has had an impressive opening few weeks as an Arsenal player, but now faces a spell on the sidelines as the club waits to discover the full extent of the injury.
With a suspected hamstring injury confirmed, football.london has reported that Tzolis is expected to spend between 15 and 20 days on the treatment table before returning to action. The club are unwilling to place a precise timescale on his recovery and will run the rule over the forward once he is back at their London Colney training base.
Arsenal leading the chase for Nusa
In the meantime, reports are surfacing that Arsenal are already scouring the transfer market for a player capable of filling the same role as Tzolis. According to Fussball News, Arsenal have registered an interest in signing RB Leipzig star Antonio Nusa ahead of the January transfer window.
Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Newcastle United are also reported to have entered the running to snap up the Norwegian international in January, with Italian giants Inter Milan, Napoli, Juventus and AC Milan also said to be keeping a close eye on his situation.
Opening offer prepared
According to the report, Arsenal are leading the chase for Nusa and are already believed to be preparing an opening offer, thought to be in the region of €40million (£34million). The Gunners were strongly linked with bringing in another attacking addition over the summer, despite having already bolstered their ranks with the arrival of Tzolis.
With Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli all having departed, Arsenal were tipped to recruit a wide forward, yet failed to push through any further transfers before the window shut. Whether Arsenal's pursuit of Nusa is serious remains to be seen, and if it is, all eyes will be on whether the north London club move to finalise a deal when the January transfer window swings open.
