Viktor Gyökeres has reportedly told Manchester United he does not wish to join the club, instead favouring a move to Arsenal, which he described as a “dream”. The Sporting Lisbon striker, valued at around €80m (£68m), is understood to view the Gunners as his preferred option due to their Champions League qualification.
Manchester United had held exploratory discussions about signing the 27-year-old, with incoming manager Ruben Amorim keen to strengthen the forward line. However, the player’s representatives have indicated he is not interested in joining United, who finished 15th in the Premier League and will not play in European competition next season after losing the Europa League final.
While United still hope to revive the transfer, it is considered an outside prospect. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly prioritising a younger option, with RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, 22, thought to be his first-choice centre-forward target. It remains unclear whether Arteta would pursue Gyökeres as an alternative.
