Ruben Amorim could help decide two Manchester United transfers in January. The Portuguese left United back in January following a disappointing 14-month spell at Old Trafford.
He spent a short time out from football before joining AC Milan in the summer. During his time at San Siro so far, he has won three, drawn two and lost one of his six matches at the helm.
Amorim's Milan targeting Barcelona's Balde
Despite making a positive start, Amorim is still expected to dip into the market to strengthen his squad during the winter transfer window, with almost £140million spent in the off-season.
Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde is someone Milan are interested in signing, according to Calciomercato. It's believed Milan are monitoring his situation as they explore alternatives with Pervis Estupinan injured.
Balde, who has two years left on his contract at Barcelona, has played just 12 minutes of first-team football this season and is expected to be available for transfer in January. Joao Cancelo has started the campaign as Barca's left-back with Eric Garcia on the other side.
United's left-back alternatives and Zirkzee interest
Alongside Milan, United have been long interested in a move for Balde and were in for the Spaniard in the summer, only for him to remain at Barca. The Reds have been desperate to add a left-back to their squad to compete with Luke Shaw on that side, and Balde is an option.
But if Amorim and Milan move for Balde, that would prove to be a huge blow for United, and make the club look to alternatives with Rayan Ait Nouri and Joaquin Seys linked.
Another player Milan are keeping an eye on is United forward Joshua Zirkzee. The Reds are reported to want £30million for the Netherlands international with Amorim thought to have shown an interest.
Zirkzee appeared surplus to requirements under Michael Carrick during his interim spell in charge last season as he failed to break 100 minutes played. He is already on the way to surpassing that total, however, after just a few months of the 2026/27 campaign.
Injury problems for Benjamin Sesko has seen the 25-year-old make a number of substitute appearances with the increase in minutes also seeing him earn a recall to the Dutch national team in place of the injured Brian Brobbey. He made the most of that by scoring the winner in their 2-1 Nations League victory over Serbia last week.
United's stance on Zirkzee sale
Despite that, United still want to sell and are willing to accept a fee in the region of €35million (£30m), while also being open to an initial loan deal.
Fiorentina had offered £30m this past summer, but Zirkzee was against joining them as he preferred a move to Juventus. The outlet have previously claimed only recently that Milan, and a subsequent reunion with Amorim, was in their sights and that an initial temporary switch was also their preferred option.
