Alexander Zverev claimed his second Grand Slam title in three attempts with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-2), 5-7, 6-2 victory over Ben Shelton in the US Open final. The win caps a transformative year for Zverev, who had never won a Slam before 2026 and had previously lost in three different finals.
Zverev's message to Trinity Rodman
Immediately after the match, Zverev sent a message to Shelton's girlfriend, Trinity Rodman. Rodman, a professional football player in the United States, skipped her team's Sunday afternoon match to watch Shelton at the US Open.
Speaking post-match, Zverev said: "Trinity, I thought you had a game today. You're the lucky charm ... not today, but usually."
Shelton's run and women's singles
For Shelton, the wait for a first Grand Slam victory will extend until at least 2027, but the young American earned plenty of plaudits for his run to the final.
In the women's singles draw, Elena Rybakina defeated Aryna Sabalenka in Saturday's final to claim her third Grand Slam title. The new WTA world No.1 also won the Australian Open earlier in 2026.
