Declan Rice has confirmed he is 'good as gold' after being substituted late in England's 2-1 win over DR Congo, while Senegal are left fuming at a VAR decision that cost them victory against Belgium.
Declan Rice Injury Update
The 27-year-old Arsenal midfielder hobbled off in the closing stages of Wednesday's match after Harry Kane's brace secured England's place in the last 16. Rice was replaced by John Stones, sparking concerns ahead of England's clash with Mexico on Monday, July 6.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Rice said: "It's what happens when you play in 30-degree heat I suppose. Tough game. Give it everything and bodies been through a lot in that match. Time to recover and go again." He added: "I'm fine. Good as gold."
Senegal Rage at VAR Injustice
Senegal held a 2-0 lead over Belgium in their last 32 clash but threw it away through poor defending and rash decision-making. Goals from Habib Diarra and Ismaila Sarr put them in control until the 86th minute, when Romelu Lukaku pulled one back. Leandro Trossard equalised in the final minute of normal time, forcing extra time.
In the 120th minute, a lengthy VAR check awarded Belgium a penalty after Lamine Camara fouled Youri Tielemans in the area. Tielemans converted from 12 yards, giving Belgium a 3-2 win. Senegal players and fans were incensed by the decision.
England's Comeback Win
Earlier, England secured a 2-1 victory over DR Congo to book their place in the last 16. The Three Lions trailed 1-0 for most of the match before Harry Kane scored a late brace to turn the game around.
