How the Eight Best Third-Placed Teams Are Decided
The eight best third-placed teams are ranked based on several criteria. First, teams are compared by total points obtained in all group matches. If still level, goal difference across all group matches is considered. If a tie remains, total goals scored in all group matches is used. If teams cannot be separated, the Fair Play ranking (yellow and red cards) is applied, and as a final tiebreaker, the FIFA World Ranking is used.
According to the official FIFA rules, the third-placed teams are sorted into a separate table, and the top eight advance to the round of 32. This system adds a layer of complexity and excitement to the group stage.
