Swansea City have once again been linked with a move for Leyton Orient striker Dom Ballard, but they may face stiff competition for his signature. According to the Mail, the Swans are among four clubs interested in the 21-year-old, who netted 23 goals in League One last season.
Interest from Multiple Clubs
Championship rivals Bristol City are also reportedly keen, while Bundesliga side Werder Bremen have been monitoring the player. Newly-relegated West Ham United are tipped to make a move as they aim to rebuild their squad for an immediate return to the Premier League. The Hammers are considered a particularly attractive option for Ballard, who was named League One Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season.
Ballard's Rise to Prominence
The England under-20 international came through Southampton's academy and had three loan spells before the Saints sold him to Orient on deadline day last summer. He signed a three-year contract with an option for a fourth year for an undisclosed fee. Since then, he has become one of the most sought-after prospects in League One.
Swansea's Previous Success with Orient
Swansea have previously recruited successfully from Orient, signing Ethan Galbraith for around £1.5 million last summer. Coincidentally, Galbraith has also attracted interest from West Ham, whose transfer activities could significantly impact Swansea's summer plans.
Potential Impact on Zan Vipotnik
West Ham are also known admirers of Swansea's star striker Zan Vipotnik, who has been linked with a move to Portuguese giants Sporting. Should West Ham move for Ballard, it might signal an end to their interest in Vipotnik, who is expected to command a fee north of £15 million. The extent of Swansea's interest in Ballard remains unclear, but if Vipotnik is sold, they will undoubtedly be seeking a replacement.
