Stuart Lewis has left Tottenham Hotspur after 11 years to join Ipswich Town as an assistant coach under newly appointed manager Gary O'Neil. The 42-year-old, a boyhood Tottenham fan, was the club's academy transition coach since 2015, tasked with bridging the gap between youth prospects and the first team.
Key Contributions at Tottenham
Lewis is credited with facilitating the debuts of several young talents, including Luca Williams-Barnett and Jun'ai Byfield last season. He also mentored Mikey Moore, Will Lankshear, and Callum Olusesi. Under his guidance, Tottenham's academy won a cup double in 2022/23 and the Under-17 Premier League Cup in 2023.
In an emotional statement on the club's website, Lewis said: "Returning to my boyhood club as a coach 11 years ago was a dream come true. Having supported Tottenham Hotspur since I was five years old and previously represented the Club as a young professional, it was a privilege to come back and help develop the next generation of players." He added: "While those trophies were incredibly special, I always knew that the primary objective was to develop players capable of progressing to the first team."
Move to Ipswich Town
Ipswich Town, promoted back to the Premier League last season, appointed Gary O'Neil as manager. O'Neil expressed enthusiasm about Lewis joining his staff: "He is a young coach who already has a good range of experience and is highly-regarded, both at Tottenham and within the game, and is an important addition to our team." Lewis has already joined Ipswich's pre-season training camp in Murcia, Spain, where they will face Osasuna in a friendly next week.
