Rangers have made contact with Bologna regarding a potential move for Scottish international Lewis Ferguson, but the Italian club has made it clear that only a substantial offer would persuade them to sell.
Difficult Deal Ahead for Rangers
Ibrox sources have admitted that securing Ferguson's signature will be a significant challenge. The World Cup star has also been linked with Serie A sides Roma and Atalanta, with transfer fees reportedly in the region of £17 million. It remains uncertain whether Rangers can match that valuation.
To fund a potential bid, Rangers may need to offload players such as Belgian midfielder Nico Raskin or Mohamed Diomande. Italian press reports have claimed that Rangers have already opened talks with Ferguson, though the club has not confirmed this.
Ferguson's Rise at Bologna
Ferguson is no stranger to Rangers boss Derek McInnes, who previously signed him from Hamilton to Aberdeen and helped launch his career. Since moving to Bologna, Ferguson has become a key player, serving as one of the club's captains and leading them to Coppa Italia glory in 2025. Bologna highly rate the midfielder and will demand top dollar for his transfer.
Rangers have already strengthened their squad this summer, snapping up Ferguson's former Aberdeen teammate Ross McCrorie, as well as Lawrence Shankland, Ivor Pandur, and Dan Neil.
