Emma Raducanu is once again searching for a new coach after parting ways with Francisco Roig, her ninth mentor since her breakthrough in 2021. The British No. 1 confirmed the split following her early exit at the Australian Open last week, where she lost in the second round to Anastasia Potapova.
Raducanu, 23, announced the decision on social media, thanking Roig for their six-month collaboration. “Thank you for our time together. You have been more than a coach to me,” she wrote. “While we have come to the conclusion together that we ought not to move forward, please know that I’m very grateful for all you have taught me.”
The Spaniard, a former long-time member of Rafael Nadal’s team, had worked with Raducanu since before the Cincinnati Open last August. However, her form in Australia was hampered by a nagging foot injury and technical issues, particularly with her forehand. “It’s something that probably happened in the last few weeks,” Raducanu said of the forehand change. “On these very quick courts it doesn’t really work, so I need to adjust that.”
Raducanu’s coaching history includes Nigel Sears, Andrew Richardson, Torben Beltz, Dmitry Tursunov, Sebastian Sachs, Vladimir Platenik, Nick Cavaday, and Mark Petchey, among others. She is next scheduled to compete at the Transylvania Open in Cluj, Romania, where she will be accompanied by LTA coach Alexis Canter.
