Emma Raducanu has brought an early end to her 2025 season after physical struggles in China. The British No 1 had hoped to secure a seeding at the Australian Open in January, but that is now in doubt.
Raducanu retired during her match against Ann Li in Wuhan with dizziness in hot conditions, then lost her opening match at the Ningbo Open while clearly not fully fit. She had her blood pressure checked and struggled with lower back issues, barely moving by the end.
She had been due to play in Tokyo and Hong Kong but has decided to focus on recovery instead. Raducanu has been feeling unwell for the past 10 days and does not want to push her body further.
On the coaching front, there is positive news as Raducanu and Francisco Roig have agreed to continue their partnership into 2026. Roig, Rafael Nadal's long-time former coach, began working with her in August.
The season has been mixed for the 22-year-old. After a difficult start, she reached her first WTA 1000 quarter-final under Mark Petchey and climbed from 61st to 29th in the world. However, she struggled in Asia, winning only two matches in four tournaments.
Raducanu may still be seeded at the Australian Open, and with a strong pre-season alongside Roig, there is optimism for 2026. Meanwhile, Britain's men's No 1 Jack Draper has split from coach James Trotman, who stepped back to prioritise family time.
