A proposed rule change to reduce Wimbledon's seeding from 32 to 16 could threaten Emma Raducanu's seeding at SW19. The British star, currently ranked world No. 32, is expected to be seeded at No. 32 for this summer's tournament, but the change would leave her vulnerable to early-round clashes with top players.
Raducanu, 23, has shown recent form after a difficult start to 2026, reaching the final at Queen's Club where she lost to Donna Vekic. During the men's final at Queen's, commentators Andrew Castle and John Lloyd discussed the seeding proposal, both advocating for a reduction to 16 seeds to improve early-round match quality.
Castle said: 'I think there should be 16 [seeds] and then we would have better matches in the first week, guaranteed.' Lloyd agreed, noting it would create 'interesting' first and second round matches. Castle acknowledged that seeding is earned but argued the current system leads to dull early rounds.
The change would affect not only Raducanu but also players like Jakub Mensik, Francisco Cerundolo, and Tommy Paul, who would miss out on seeding. In the women's draw, top seed Aryna Sabalenka would be followed by Elena Rybakina and defending champion Iga Swiatek, with other seeds including Jessica Pegula, Mirra Andreeva, Amanda Anisimova, and Coco Gauff.
