British tennis star Emma Raducanu has made the strategic decision to withdraw from two upcoming exhibition matches in the United States, prioritising her recovery and preparation for the 2026 season.
Focus on Fitness and Recovery
The 22-year-old was scheduled to face Amanda Anisimova in two separate exhibition events in Newark and Miami early next month. However, promoters have confirmed that Raducanu has been replaced by American player Jessica Pegula.
It is understood that Raducanu is managing light bone bruising on her right foot. Despite this minor setback, the injury is not expected to disrupt her plans for an intensive pre-season training camp in Barcelona.
A Season Cut Short
Raducanu's decision follows an early end to her competitive season in mid-October. She experienced significant physical struggles during tournaments in China, culminating in her retirement during the second set of her match against Ann Li in Wuhan.
She subsequently competed in the Ningbo Open but was visibly not at full fitness, losing her opening match. This sequence of events appears to have solidified her resolve to address her physical condition comprehensively before the new season begins.
New Team for a Fresh Start
In a clear signal of her intent to return stronger, Raducanu has assembled a new support team. She has linked up with Francisco Roig, the former long-term coach of tennis legend Rafael Nadal, for her upcoming pre-season block.
Furthermore, she has hired a new physio, Emma Stewart, who previously worked with British Rowing. This move underscores her commitment to building a robust physical foundation for the challenges of the 2026 tour.
