Emma Raducanu will miss a second consecutive Grand Slam tournament as she continues to recover from a stress fracture in her lower right leg. The world No. 49 is set to skip the US Open after pulling out of Wimbledon on the eve of the tournament earlier this summer.
Five years after historic win
Raducanu, 23, has not played a match since finishing runner-up at the Queen's Club almost two months ago. It's now been five years since the Brit made history at the US Open, becoming the first and only qualifier to win a Major title. But on the half-decade anniversary of her heroic run, she will not compete in Flushing Meadows.
The US Open gets underway in less than four weeks, but Raducanu has already decided to skip the event on medical advice and is said to be sad to miss such a special tournament.
Recovery progress
Since pulling out of Wimbledon, the British No. 1 has been spotted wearing a protective boot on her right leg. She has also shared footage from some early practice sessions. One video showed Raducanu sitting on a bin and hitting balls. In a second clip, filmed during a trip to Switzerland, she stood on a clay court and hit some serves.
The US Open concludes on September 13, by which time Raducanu won't have played a match for three months. She was also not named in Britain's squad for the Billie Jean King Finals, which takes place in Shenzhen from September 22 to 27.
