Fresh reports linking Dylan Lawlor with West Ham United have emerged this week, but WalesOnline understands there has been no new approach for the talented Cardiff City defender.
Social media reports suggested the Hammers had "stepped up their efforts" to sign the Wales international following positive talks over the last few days, with claims the Championship club had become West Ham's priority centre-back target.
However, top Cardiff sources have dismissed suggestions there has been any significant development, with WalesOnline understanding that no fresh contact has been made with either Cardiff or Lawlor's representatives regarding a move to east London.
While West Ham's admiration for the 20-year-old is genuine and longstanding, there has been no formal offer lodged with Cardiff and no indication that negotiations have progressed beyond the interest first reported earlier this summer.
Cardiff's Stance Remains Clear
Cardiff's stance, meanwhile, remains crystal clear. The Bluebirds are desperate to keep hold of one of the standout performers from last season's promotion-winning campaign, with Brian Barry-Murphy viewing Lawlor as a cornerstone of his long-term project in south Wales.
The head coach is determined to build around a young core of talented players, something underlined by the club's ambitious pursuit of Norwegian midfielder Jens Hjertø-Dahl in what could become one of the biggest transfer deals in Cardiff's recent history.
Rather than preparing for the departure of key assets, the club's focus remains on strengthening the squad ahead of their Championship return.
Lawlor's Breakthrough Season
Lawlor enjoyed a remarkable breakthrough campaign last season, winning Cardiff's Young Player of the Season award before forcing his way into Craig Bellamy's Wales squad and establishing himself on the international stage.
His performances have inevitably attracted widespread attention. As WalesOnline revealed last month, West Ham were among a number of clubs monitoring the defender, while at least three Championship sides had also registered interest.
The youngster has also attracted scouts from two Champions League clubs, one Europa League side and a pair of MLS teams, highlighting just how highly he is regarded despite still being only 20.
That interest is unlikely to disappear. It could potentially even ramp up now that the World Cup is finished and clubs can take full stock of their squads.
Future Talking Point
Lawlor has emerged as one of the most exciting young defenders in British football and, with two years remaining on his Cardiff contract, his future will inevitably become a talking point throughout the transfer window.
But, as things stand, Cardiff's position has not changed. The club want him to remain in south Wales, the ambitious Barry-Murphy wants to continue his development in the Championship and there has been no fresh breakthrough in West Ham's pursuit despite the latest reports.
Cardiff are instead concentrating on adding to their squad before the window closes. The Bluebirds remain hopeful of completing a deal for Tromsø midfielder Hjertø-Dahl, while further reinforcements are also being sought at left-back, on the wing and in attack.
Potential Departure Elsewhere
There could, however, be movement elsewhere among the club's young talent. While Cardiff remain confident Lawlor will stay, WalesOnline understands academy star Axel Donczew is expected to leave the club.
The teenage midfielder, who became Cardiff's youngest-ever player when he made his debut against Newport County aged just 15, has not featured during pre-season preparations and is expected to pursue opportunities elsewhere.
Arsenal and Fulham have both previously been linked with the Wales youth international, who is regarded as one of the country's brightest prospects.
