Newcastle United fans have made their transfer priorities clear: a new centre-forward is the top demand, according to a Chronicle Live poll. Despite the recent sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and the need for a winger, 46% of thousands of voters want a striker as the club's primary summer signing.
Poll Results Reveal Fan Sentiment
The poll, which asked fans which position Newcastle should strengthen next, saw a striker lead with 46% of the vote. A winger to replace Gordon came second with 24%, while a right-back garnered 12%, an experienced goalkeeper 11%, a defensive midfielder 5%, and a left-back just 2%.
Current Striker Options Under Scrutiny
Newcastle spent £124 million last summer on forwards Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa, but Woltemade ended the season in midfield and Wissa managed only three goals in an injury-hit campaign. Will Osula, 22, finished the season as first-choice striker, scoring six goals in nine appearances, but remains raw and is considered a risk to lead the line next season.
As such, the Magpies may need to offload one of their current three striking options to make room for a new addition. The club has already signed 20-year-old goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen for £18.5 million, but he has only played in the French second tier.
Transfer Activity So Far
Newcastle have released six senior players and sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona, leaving gaps in the squad. The departures of Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth have created a need for a full-back, while a midfielder and an experienced goalkeeper are also on the shopping list, especially if Sandro Tonali is sold.
