Iga Swiatek has won her third French Open title, becoming the first woman to successfully defend the championship in 16 years, after a gripping three-set battle against Karolina Muchova. The world number one triumphed 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 in a match that will be remembered as one of the tournament's greatest finals.
The first set suggested a routine victory for Swiatek, but Muchova fought back to take the second set, pushing the Polish star to her limits. The final set was a tense affair, with Swiatek eventually securing the win after a dramatic final game that included a double fault from Muchova on championship point.
In her on-court interview, Swiatek praised Muchova's variety and predicted more finals between them. She thanked her team and the Polish fans who travelled to Paris, saying, 'I really love being here – it’s my favourite place on tour.' Muchova, visibly emotional, said, 'This was so close but so far... I feel like I am the winner when I look at my team.'
The victory marks Swiatek's fourth Grand Slam title at just 22 years old, adding to her US Open and two previous French Open crowns. Chris Evert, a seven-time French Open champion, presented the trophy.
