Man Utd Transfer: Tonali Bid Rejected, Carrick Told to Sign Nmecha
Man Utd: Tonali Bid Rejected, Carrick Urged to Sign Nmecha

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick is preparing for a busy summer transfer window after securing a third-place Premier League finish and a return to Champions League football. The squad requires reinforcements to compete on multiple fronts, particularly in midfield following Casemiro's departure.

£80m Tonali Bid Rejected

Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali is a reported target for several top clubs, including Manchester United, but it was Tottenham Hotspur who submitted an £80 million bid. According to the Newcastle Chronicle, the offer was swiftly rejected as Newcastle values the Italian at £100 million. However, the Magpies are reportedly open to selling Tonali this summer. Manchester City and Arsenal are also monitoring the situation, but Spurs have taken the lead with their initial approach.

Alternative Targets: Fernandes and Nmecha

West Ham United's Mateus Fernandes is another name linked with a move to Old Trafford. The 21-year-old Portuguese midfielder impressed despite the Hammers' relegation from the Premier League. Manchester United have made an approach but are unwilling to meet West Ham's £80 million asking price. Other clubs are also interested in Fernandes.

United legend Gary Neville has advised his former club to consider alternatives if the price for Fernandes is not lowered. Speaking on ITV, Neville highlighted Borussia Dortmund and Germany midfielder Felix Nmecha, a former Manchester City player who has shone at the World Cup. Nmecha reportedly has a £69 million release clause in his contract that becomes active next year.

Neville said: "The more he [Nmecha] plays like he did the other night the more expensive he'll get. But at the moment, we hear Manchester United are being quoted £100 million for the West Ham boy Fernandes. So they're going to have to be looking around this tournament and parts of Europe. He looked outstanding the other night, it looked like he had absolutely everything."

Midfield Rebuild Underway

With Casemiro's exit and Ederson set to partially fill the void, another midfield addition appears likely. Carrick's side will need depth to handle the demands of Champions League football alongside domestic competitions. The coming weeks will reveal whether United pursue Tonali, Fernandes, Nmecha, or another target.
