Man United Free Up £700k Weekly Wages as Six Players Exit

Manchester United have officially parted ways with six players as manager Michael Carrick continues to reshape his squad following a successful interim spell. The departures, effective from July 1, include high-earners Jadon Sancho and Casemiro, whose exits free up approximately £700,000 per week in wages.

Departures Confirmed

The six players leaving Old Trafford are Jadon Sancho, Casemiro, Tyrell Malacia, Sonny Aljofree, Malachi Sharpe, and James Bailey. All saw their contracts expire without renewal. Sancho and Casemiro each earned £350,000 weekly, making their departures significant for the club's wage bill.

Casemiro, who joined from Real Madrid in 2022, confirmed his exit in January after winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup during his four-year stint. In a social media post, he said: "There are places we pass through in life… and there are places that become part of who we are. Manchester will forever be my home. To the city, the club, and every supporter, my sincerest thank you."

Sancho's Troubled Tenure

Sancho arrived from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 for £73 million but made only 83 appearances, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists. He spent most of his time on loan at Dortmund, Chelsea, and Aston Villa. United tried to sell him in previous windows but ultimately lost him on a free transfer.

Malacia joined in 2022 and showed promise with 39 appearances in his first season. However, a serious knee injury limited him to just 12 games after returning in November 2024. Academy trio Aljofree, Bailey, and Sharpe will be supported in finding new clubs.

Carrick's First Signing

Carrick is set to welcome his first summer signing, Atalanta midfielder Ederson, for an initial £35 million plus £3.8 million in add-ons. Other midfield targets include Mateus Fernandes, Alex Scott, Carlos Baleba, and Aurelien Tchouameni.

United secured third place in the Premier League under Carrick's caretaker management, earning a Champions League spot with 12 wins, four draws, and two losses. His position has now been made permanent.
