Leeds United Favourites to Sign Harry Wilson as Key Factor Emerges
Leeds Favourites for Harry Wilson as Key Factor Emerges

Leeds United have emerged as the bookmakers' favourites to secure the signature of Wales international Harry Wilson. The former Liverpool winger is out of contract this summer, and although Fulham have offered him a new deal, a move away from Craven Cottage appears increasingly likely.

Wilson's Contract Situation

Wilson, 29, has been given the opportunity to extend his stay at Fulham, but the lure of a fresh challenge could see him depart. Leeds now top the betting odds for his signature, with Aston Villa also strongly linked. Portuguese side Benfica were briefly in contention following the appointment of Marco Silva, Wilson's former Fulham boss, but they have since dropped out of the race.

Welsh Contingent at Elland Road

A significant factor in Leeds' favour is the existing Welsh presence at the club. Joe Rodon and Daniel James are already on the books, while captain Ethan Ampadu has been actively promoting the club to Wilson. Ampadu admitted: "I'm trying to sell it to everyone. It's a pretty easy sell. Everyone knows how special a place Leeds is."

Goalkeeper Karl Darlow, also a Wales international, is another key figure, though he is out of contract and reportedly attracting interest from Manchester United. Leeds will be keen to retain him after a strong season.

Ampadu's Influence

Ampadu's positive reviews of life at Leeds could prove pivotal in convincing Wilson to make the move. "Whenever we get asked how our time is at Leeds, when we're with Wales, we speak about it so glowingly," he added.

While Aston Villa can offer Champions League football, the appeal of Elland Road and the chance to link up with fellow Welsh internationals may tip the balance in Leeds' favour.
