Kyrgios Sends Message to Sabalenka Ahead of Battle of the Sexes Exhibition

Nick Kyrgios has reached out to world number one Aryna Sabalenka after confirming a 'Battle of the Sexes' exhibition match in Dubai this December. The former Wimbledon finalist posted on Instagram Stories: 'The moment I've been waiting for,' and commented on the match announcement: 'LETS GET IT SABA.'

The clash, scheduled for 28 December at the Coca-Cola Arena, will see Kyrgios likely restricted to one serve. Kyrgios, who has played only six matches since October 2022 due to injury, said: 'When the world number one challenges you, you answer the call. I've got massive respect for Aryna; she's a powerhouse and a true champion. But I've never backed down from a challenge.'

Sabalenka, who shares an agent with Kyrgios, issued a warning: 'I have a lot of respect for Nick and his talent, but make no mistake, I'm ready to bring my A-game.' She added: 'I have so much respect for Billie Jean King and what she has done for the women's game. I'm proud to represent women's tennis and to be part of this modern take of the iconic Battle of the Sexes match.'

The exhibition echoes the 1973 showdown between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, which King won in straight sets. Kyrgios described the opportunity as one he could not refuse, saying: 'I'm not just here to play, I'm here to entertain. This is what I live for.'
