Liverpool striker Alexander Isak has made a comment during a recent interview which may not please Newcastle United supporters. The Sweden international left the Magpies last year after demanding a move away from St. James' Park to make the switch to Merseyside.
Eventually, Isak left Newcastle on deadline day in September last year in a deal worth £125million, following weeks of intense speculation surrounding his future. Isak endured a tough first season at Liverpool after his Newcastle exit, scoring just four goals and spending several months on the sidelines with a serious leg injury.
Best Premier League memory
The 27-year-old is currently with the Sweden squad for the extended international break, but took part in an interview with Viaplay before the international break began. In a series of quickfire questions, Isak was asked for his best Premier League memory across his career so far.
In response, Isak said: "Signing with Liverpool". Before making the switch to Merseyside, Isak scored 62 goals for Newcastle across 109 appearances and three years on Tyneside.
Return to St James' Park
Isak has already made his return to Newcastle as a Liverpool player, where he started in the 2-2 draw between the two clubs on the opening day of the Premier League season back in August. The striker did not score a goal but completed the full 90 minutes, and was criticised by Newcastle legend Alan Shearer for not stepping up to take the penalty in stoppage time to score against his former club.
"I was thinking 'Go on, come and take the penalty!' What have you got? Go and grab the ball and take the penalty Isak," Shearer said on The Rest is Football podcast. In response to the remarks from Shearer, Isak recently said: "[Dominik] Szoboszlai was the penalty taker for that match."
"It's a bit irrelevant [Shearer's verdict]. Those are team matters, and it's not for the media or the supporters to decide who should take a penalty. I'm always hungry."
Atmosphere and next meeting
Isak was also asked about the heated atmosphere he received from Newcastle fans on his return to St James' Park last month. He said: "It was special. I was prepared for the atmosphere, so it was a special match."
The next chance Isak will have to face Newcastle will be when the Magpies go up against Liverpool in the Premier League on April 10, unless the two clubs are drawn against each other either in the Carabao Cup or FA Cup.
