Kai Havertz has shut down any suggestion he would consider re-joining Chelsea this summer. The German international signed for Arsenal in 2023, moving across London after three years at Stamford Bridge.
Havertz's Chelsea legacy and Arsenal struggles
Havertz lacked consistency while playing in royal blue, recording 32 goals and 16 assists across all competitions. However, he etched his name into Chelsea's history by scoring the winning goal in the 2021 Champions League final against Manchester City. Injuries have hampered his time at Arsenal, where he remains under contract until the summer of 2028. He repeated his Champions League final heroics by giving the Gunners an early lead against Paris Saint-Germain in this season's showpiece.
Transfer window expectations
Both Arsenal and Chelsea are expected to be active in the summer transfer market, with considerable squad turnover anticipated. Centre-forward is a position of note for both clubs. Arsenal hope to sign another striker, while Chelsea may be forced to do the same if Liam Delap leaves after a disappointing debut campaign. However, if a striker is signed, it will not be Havertz.
Fan encounter and commitment
Havertz was asked by a fan whether he would be open to rejoining Chelsea as he signed autographs at Germany's World Cup base camp. Told to "go back to Chelsea" by a young supporter, Havertz was unequivocal, replying: "You wish, you wish." There has been no serious suggestion that Chelsea were interested in signing Havertz this summer, and this is not the first time the player has made clear his commitment to Arsenal.
He dismissed rumours surrounding his future at a press conference in March, stating: "I feel right at home at Arsenal and I see my future there. I feel everyone there is also very, very happy with me. Sure, it wasn't a very easy season, but I definitely see my future at Arsenal, in London."
World Cup involvement
Havertz is set to play a key role for Germany at this summer's World Cup. He scored an early goal as they beat the United States in a warm-up friendly. Germany share a group with the Ivory Coast and Ecuador, with their campaign starting on June 20.
