Four Man United Players Enter Final Year of Contracts

Bruno Fernandes, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, and Altay Bayindir have entered the final year of their Manchester United contracts. The quartet's deals now expire next summer, raising questions about their futures at Old Trafford.

Shaw at Risk of Free Transfer

United do not have a one-year extension option in Shaw's contract, meaning he will be lost on a free transfer next summer if he is not given new terms. The left-back was the only United player to start every Premier League game last season, becoming just the fifth outfield player to have started all 38 top-flight games for the club during a campaign. Steve Bruce, Gary Pallister, Denis Irwin, and Harry Maguire are the other four players to have achieved the feat. Shaw completed 90 minutes on 25 occasions from his 38 starts throughout the season.

The 30-year-old is the longest-serving member of United's dressing room, having joined from Southampton in the summer of 2014 for a £27million deal under Louis van Gaal.

Fernandes and Martinez Options

Fernandes broke the Premier League assist record last term, and United chiefs have informed him of their desire for him to stay beyond this summer. United have the option to extend Fernandes' contract by 12 months, so there are currently no plans to offer the captain a new deal, but that could change in the 2026/2027 campaign. During a sit-down with Manchester-based reporters in October, Fernandes said he would not discuss his future with his agent until after the World Cup.

The Reds have the option of a one-year extension in Martinez's contract. The defender missed the first three months of the season as he recovered from a knee injury. Martinez missed more time between February and March due to a calf injury, and was suspended for three games shortly after his return due to the controversial pull of Dominic Calvert-Lewin's hair. The Argentina international has been a first-choice starter for his nation at this summer's World Cup. Argentina have been handed a favourable-looking route to the final and are second favourites to lift the trophy again.

Bayindir Set to Leave

Bayindir is set to leave Old Trafford this summer in search of regular game time. The goalkeeper's contract expires in 2027, and there is an option for an extension, but he is planning to leave before the end of the window. He did not make a single appearance for Turkey as they crashed out of the group stages of the World Cup.
