A German mathematician who has accurately predicted the last three World Cup winners has backed the Netherlands to claim glory this summer.
Algorithm Success
Joachim Klement used his algorithm to correctly predict Germany in 2014, France in 2018, and Argentina in 2022. His model considers factors such as GDP per capita, sports infrastructure, population size, and world rankings.
Netherlands Prediction
Klement believes the Dutch, led by Ronald Koeman, will win the World Cup for the first time. They have been runners-up three times, most recently in 2010, and their only major tournament victory was Euro 88.
He predicts the Netherlands will beat Spain in the semi-finals and then defeat Portugal in the final in New York. England is tipped to reach the last four but lose to Portugal.
Group Stage
The Netherlands, ranked eighth in the world, are in a group with Japan, Sweden, and Tunisia and are favorites to advance. They have lost only one of their last 16 games in regular time.
Caution on Predictions
Klement warns that his predictions should not be taken as fact, comparing them to a coin toss. He expressed surprise at Germany's 2014 win in Brazil, given that no European team had previously won a World Cup in South America.
