England are dreaming of World Cup glory and now have an idea of who they could face after DR Congo if they are to bring football back home. By Charlie Malam.
Round of 32: England vs DR Congo
England's first knockout match at this World Cup sees them face DR Congo in Atlanta tonight at 5pm. Yoane Wissa and co. finished third in Group K with four points and held Portugal to a draw.
Round of 16: Potential Mexico Clash
England's reward for beating DR Congo would be a trip to Mexico City to take on co-hosts Mexico at the iconic Azteca Stadium. Mexico beat Ecuador 2-0 in the round of 32 and have won all four of their matches so far without conceding a goal while producing some electrifying atmospheres on home soil.
Quarter-finals: Brazil or Norway Await
Should the Three Lions dump out Mexico in their own backyard, they will return to the United States for a last-eight showdown in Miami. There, either five-time champions Brazil or Norway will await them. Brazil beat Japan 2-1 in their first knockout match and Erling Haaland's Norway sent Ivory Coast home by the same scoreline.
Semi-finals: Reigning Champions Argentina
A return to Atlanta could see England face reigning champions Argentina, who have a favourable run to the final four as well as a Lionel Messi in sensational form. Colombia are the likeliest alternative but must get past Ghana, Switzerland or Algeria and then likely Argentina to reach the semis.
Final: Potential Opponents
A first World Cup final since 1966 would likely see England face either France, Spain, Morocco or Portugal. France have won all of their four games so far, scoring a scary 13 goals, and are widely tipped to win the tournament. They could face Spain in a blockbuster semi-final.
