England World Cup Camp Rocked by Earthquake and Shooting

England are fine-tuning their preparations for the 2026 World Cup, with their final warm-up match against Costa Rica set for Wednesday evening at the Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando, Florida. Thomas Tuchel's side will then face Croatia, Ghana, and Panama in the group stage.

Training Base in West Palm Beach

The team has been staying at The Belgrove Resort and Spa in West Palm Beach, a lavish resort described as "steeped in the relaxed glamor of the British Caribbean lifestyle." The resort offers amenities such as sunrise yoga, spa rituals, championship golf, and racquet sports, but Tuchel and his squad are focused on team-building and preparing for the tournament.

Earthquake Rocks Florida Keys

Preparations took a frightening turn earlier this week when a 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck the Florida Keys, the most powerful quake in the Gulf of Mexico in nearly 150 years. The epicentre was 400 miles from the resort, but tremors were felt across central Orlando, Miami, and Jacksonville, causing buildings to shake. The National Weather Service confirmed there was no tsunami threat.

Shooting Near Kansas City Camp

After the Costa Rica match, England will fly to Kansas City, where they will train at Swope Soccer Village, home to Sporting KC's reserve team and academy. However, the FA has expressed concerns about privacy at the training ground, which was England's second choice after Argentina secured the main performance centre. Reports emerged of a shooting near the camp on Troost Avenue, with nine adults hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Despite these disruptions, England remain focused on their goal of winning the World Cup for the first time since 1966.
