Manchester City have reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest for the transfer of Elliot Anderson, with a fee of £116million reportedly settled upon. The 23-year-old England international has been a long-term target for City, who have now moved to secure his signature ahead of rival clubs including Manchester United. Anderson joined Forest from Newcastle United for £35m just two years ago, but his rapid development has seen his market value soar.
Fan Poll Reveals Value Perception
To gauge supporter sentiment on the hefty price tag, the Manchester Evening News conducted a poll asking fans to estimate Anderson's worth. The options were £80m to £100m, £100m to £120m, or over £120m. An overwhelming 67% of respondents selected the £80m-£100m bracket, indicating that a majority believe the agreed fee exceeds his current valuation. 23% of voters placed his worth between £100m and £120m, which encompasses the £116m deal, while only 10% considered him worth more than £120m.
These figures suggest that Anderson will need to prove his value on the pitch, particularly as the fee would set a new British transfer record. However, a strong performance for England at the upcoming World Cup could help justify the investment.
Midfield Reinforcements Under Consideration
With the Anderson deal nearing completion, attention is turning to City's broader midfield needs as they aim to reclaim the Premier League title. The club is reportedly evaluating further additions, with Sandro Tonali emerging as a potential target. The question remains whether Anderson alone suffices or if an additional midfielder like Tonali is required to bolster the squad's depth and quality. City fans are being asked to share their views on the club's transfer strategy moving forward.
