Draper Signs ASICS Deal, Following Djokovic's Footsteps

Jack Draper Emulates Novak Djokovic with Lucrative ASICS Sponsorship Agreement

British tennis sensation Jack Draper has inked a significant sponsorship agreement with sportswear giant ASICS, positioning himself as a global ambassador for the brand. This strategic move sees Draper following directly in the footsteps of his sporting idol, the legendary Novak Djokovic, who has been a long-standing ambassador for ASICS.

A Victory Precedes the Partnership

The announcement comes shortly after Draper achieved a notable career milestone by defeating Djokovic in a gripping three-set encounter at the Indian Wells tournament. The match, which ended 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 in Draper's favour, saw both athletes competing in ASICS footwear, foreshadowing the commercial alignment.

Draper's journey to this partnership began last year when he transitioned to wearing the ASICS Solution Speed FF 4 shoes, following his departure from previous sponsor Nike. Despite a recent dip in form that saw him slip to 26th in the world rankings and lose his British No.1 status to Cameron Norrie, this endorsement represents a major vote of confidence in his marketability and future potential.

Focus on Miami and British Tennis Rivalry

Draper is now setting his sights on the Miami Open, where he begins his campaign, aiming to reclaim his top British ranking. Speaking about his rival Norrie, Draper expressed admiration and a healthy competitive spirit.

"Cam is playing some great tennis," Draper stated. "He's been really consistent. I think it's great for British tennis that he's back playing really well - a former top-10 player who had a really tough injury with his forearm a couple of years ago. I'm really happy for him and his team and if we can keep on pushing each other to play well, that's only a great thing."

Djokovic's Current Challenges and Career Speculation

The deal links Draper more closely with Djokovic, who has faced a challenging period. The Serbian star, who wears the ASICS Court FF shoe, withdrew from the ATP Masters 1000 event at Indian Wells due to a shoulder injury. His only appearance since losing the Australian Open final to Carlos Alcaraz was in the Californian desert tournament.

This sequence of events has sparked speculation about a potential retirement, but tennis icon Jimmy Connors has vehemently defended Djokovic's right to decide his own future. On The Advantage Connors podcast, Connors argued against external pressure, highlighting Djokovic's dedication and love for the game.

"I like rooting for Novak [but] it catches up with everybody, getting older, recuperating not as fast and it wears on you mentally a little bit more when you have those long matches," Connors noted. "But he works on it on a daily basis... he takes care of himself, he eats the right food, he gets in a chamber, he does whatever he can to keep his fitness... And here is another thing I don’t like. I don’t like people going round saying ‘he should quit’. There is only one guy who is going to tell me that he’s going to quit, and that’s him."

Connors emphasised that Djokovic's passion and record should silence critics, stating that the decision to retire rests solely with the player who has given so much to the sport.
