Novak Djokovic delighted fans at the US Open with a dance celebration after his quarter-final victory over Taylor Fritz, dedicated to his daughter Tara’s eighth birthday. The 38-year-old Serbian, who extended his unbeaten record against Fritz to 11-0 with a 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 win, performed a choreographed routine inspired by the Netflix film KPop Demon Hunters.
Djokovic explained that Tara, who turned eight on Tuesday, is a huge fan of the movie, which follows a fictional K-pop girl group fighting demons. “We are at home doing different choreographies, and this is one of them,” he said. “Hopefully I’ll make her smile when she wakes up in the morning.” The dance was performed in Arthur Ashe Stadium after the match, with Djokovic calling the win “a big present” for his daughter, who was not in attendance.
The KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack has topped Billboard’s Soundtracks chart and reached No. 8 on the all-genre Billboard 200. Djokovic will next face Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals on Friday, with the Spaniard yet to drop a set in the tournament. Alcaraz has his own celebration, inspired by golf, as both players seek a place in the final.
