Crystal Palace have initiated discussions with representatives of Charlie Cresswell regarding a potential transfer for the Toulouse defender, according to Standard Sport. The Eagles are among several Premier League clubs expressing interest in the 23-year-old, while Ligue 1 side Rennes also pursue a move.
Club-to-Club Talks Yet to Begin
Although no formal negotiations between clubs have taken place, Palace have sounded out Cresswell's camp to understand the terms of a possible deal. The centre-back, who left Leeds United for Toulouse in 2024 in search of regular playing time, has made 66 appearances across all competitions over the past two seasons in France.
Palace Prepare for Lacroix Exit
Palace are in the market for a centre-back amid Chelsea's interest in Maxence Lacroix. Standard Sport understands the Eagles are under no financial pressure to sell the French international, but have identified Cresswell as a direct replacement should Lacroix depart. Cresswell is believed to be keen on a return to England.
Chelsea's Centre-Back Search
Chelsea are monitoring several targets for their defence, with Lacroix among them. However, the Blues have yet to make an official bid for the France international and continue to explore other options. Como centre-half Jacobo Ramon also features highly on Chelsea's list, with the Italian side coincidentally holding an interest in Trevoh Chalobah. Chelsea are not actively looking to sell Chalobah, but the England international is reportedly keen on a move abroad.
Palace initially registered their interest in Cresswell during the January transfer window, and his form in Ligue 1 has attracted further attention from clubs in both England and France.
