Brazil will have Raphinha back in the squad for today's World Cup 2026 round-of-16 contest against Norway. The Barcelona star missed the wins over Scotland and Japan with a hamstring injury sustained in the Group C victory against Haiti.
Raphinha Fit but Not Starting
Selecao head coach Carlo Ancelotti has said that Raphinha is ready to play a part against Norway, though he will not start the game in New Jersey on Sunday. Ancelotti confirmed the winger's return as a key boost for Brazil's knockout campaign.
Paqueta Out, Casemiro Fit
Lucas Paqueta was substituted at half-time during the last-gasp knockout win over Japan, and then first goalscorer Casemiro was withdrawn shortly before Gabriel Martinelli fired home the late winner. Although Casemiro is ready to face Norway, Paqueta is unavailable due to a hamstring issue. Danilo Santos should come into the side in midfield.
Ancelotti Likely to Keep Changes Minimal
Ancelotti is otherwise unlikely to make sweeping changes to the team that secured Brazil's place in the last 16. Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha is set to retain his place despite failing to add to his three tournament goals before being replaced after 65 minutes against Japan.
That would leave Martinelli, whose dramatic stoppage-time goal sealed victory over Samurai Blue in Houston, once again among the substitutes, while teenage forward Endrick is also expected to begin on the bench after a fairly ineffectual cameo against Japan.
Vinicius Jr Leading Attack
Much of Brazil's attacking threat will again rest with Vinicius Jr, who has been one of the standout performers at this summer's World Cup. The Real Madrid forward has scored four goals and registered one assist at the tournament so far, as he competes with the likes of Norway star Erling Haaland, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe for the Golden Boot.
