Brazil will face Japan in the World Cup round of 16 on Monday, with Bournemouth's Rayan expected to replace the injured Raphinha on the right wing. Carlo Ancelotti's side progressed from Group B after a draw with Morocco and wins over Haiti and Scotland, but performances have been unconvincing.
Raphinha Injury Update
Raphinha sustained a thigh injury during Brazil's 4-0 victory over Haiti and has remained with the squad to recover. "I will do everything within my power to recover and return as soon as possible," he wrote on Instagram. "I want to be alongside my team-mates, fight for our goals, and keep giving everything I have to honour this shirt and bring joy to the Brazilian fans. I'm staying strong." The winger is not expected back before the quarter-finals at the earliest.
Predicted Lineup and Key Changes
Rayan, who started against Scotland and assisted Vinicius Jr's goal, is the likely replacement. Neymar, now 34, is an alternative option on the wing but has been used sparingly. Matheus Cunha retains his place as centre-forward after an effective display. The only other potential change is at left-back, where Douglas Santos may be replaced by Alex Sandro. Alisson remains in goal, with Danilo, Marquinhos, and Gabriel forming the rest of the defence.
Ancelotti is expected to keep the same midfield trio of Casemiro, Bruno Guimaraes, and Lucas Paqueta. Bruno Guimaraes provided two assists in the last match. Casemiro, Fabinho, and Danilo are each one booking away from a suspension.
Match Details
Brazil's predicted XI (4-3-3): Alisson; Danilo, Marquinhos, Gabriel, Santos; Casemiro, Bruno Guimaraes, Paqueta; Vinicius Jr, Cunha, Rayan. Injured: Raphinha (thigh). The match kicks off at 6pm BST on Monday, June 29, and will be broadcast live on ITV1.
