Barcelona insist there are 'no concerns' around Anthony Gordon's registration, just hours after he missed a late penalty during his side's 2-1 win against Al-Ahly.
Gordon joined Barca in a £69million deal from Newcastle United earlier this summer and made his debut as a starter in Sunday's penultimate pre-season fixture at Basel. The 25-year-old impressed on his debut in a 5-2 win for Hansi Flick's side and received rave reviews from the Barca supporters.
Registration status ahead of Elche clash
But Gordon still hasn't been registered by the Catalan side ahead of their La Liga curtain-raiser against Elche on Sunday. Karim Adeyemi is in the same situation following his £19m move from Borussia Dortmund, while Rodri, who made the £65m switch from Manchester City this week, has been registered.
Despite this, TEAMTalk have reported that Barcelona are not concerned about Gordon's registration and remain 'confident' that he will be available for this weekend's trip to Elche. It's added that the player's camp are 'relaxed' about the situation and are not considering emergency alternatives in case he can't be registered.
Penalty miss in final pre-season fixture
Gordon made his home debut for Barca on Wednesday, coming on as a half-time substitute for Raphinha in their final pre-season fixture against Egyptian Premier League side Al-Ahly. With Flick's men 2-1 up going into stoppage-time, Gordon was gifted the perfect opportunity to open his Barca account after they were awarded a penalty.
However, Gordon, who had an excellent record from the spot at Newcastle, saw his effort saved by Al-Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy, who got down well to push the ball wide.
Gordon's words at unveiling
England international Gordon was unveiled to the Barcelona fans on Tuesday following his first full week of pre-season training after representing the Three Lions at this summer's World Cup. And he claimed there was "never any question" about whether he would make the move to Barcelona, when the La Liga side became an option.
"As soon as I knew Barca was a serious option, there was never any question. I always wanted Barca. Barca is the biggest club on the planet," Gordon said at his Barca unveiling.
"It's the stuff I dreamed of as a child. It really is a dream come true to be here. I know it comes with a lot of responsibility, but I'm ready for this kind of challenge. I know the players in the past who've worn the shirt... it holds a lot of weight, but I'm excited for the challenge."
He then added: "To play with Lamine [Yamal] and the rest of the players is very exciting for me. I think the more players with quality around you, the better you are going to be. These players are at the very top level for a reason. They are the best players in the world."
