Stefan Bajcetic has reportedly flown to Finland to meet with the doctor who operated on him ahead of a potential exit from Liverpool. The midfielder is being heavily linked with a return to Spanish side Celta Vigo.
The Reds purchased him from the La Liga side in 2021 not long after he was compared to Barcelona icon Sergio Busquets. He made his breakthrough into the first team in 2022 and looked set to anchor the midfield for many years to come.
However, a calf injury derailed his development and forced him to miss the majority of the 2023-24 campaign. The 21-year-old then failed to impress while on loan at Red Bull Salzburg and Las Palmas.
Final year of contract
Now he is in the final year of his deal at Anfield, a permanent exit looks likely. Andoni Iraola is also understood to not have him in his plans meaning the end is seemingly nigh for the youngster.
A return to Celta Vigo is the most likely option according to reports in Spain, while Faro de Vigo claim that Bajcetic is being encouraged to cancel his Reds contract early to force through a move to his former club.
He has reportedly travelled to Finland for a check-up on his injury issues with a view of receiving medical clearance ahead of a potential transfer.
Celta Vigo coach's stance
Celta Vigo head coach Claudio Giráldez recently suggested he would welcome Bajcetic back with open arms. He said: "If he's happy and we can reach an agreement, it would be a good situation.
"But, I'm not thinking about that right now. He's a homegrown player; I don't talk about players we don't have. If I talk about any of them, it's those who have been here before because we understand that we always have a stronger connection.
"And, on top of that, we have a very good relationship. I coached him. If it happens, great, but I don't talk about players we don't have."
Liverpool's transfer plans
Liverpool have already sold Curtis Jones to Inter Milan for around £30m. Despite Iraola appearing to be short of options in the middle of the park, it's understood they are not in the market for more central midfielders.
They are looking to bolster the front-line with Bradley Barcola of Paris Saint-Germain still being linked with a potential Premier League record breaking move to Anfield.
