Carlos Alcaraz has set his sights on revenge against Ben Shelton in the Paris Masters final, days after the American announced he had hired Alcaraz's long-time former coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero.
Alcaraz, the world No. 3, spent nearly five months sidelined by a wrist injury this year. He made his comeback at the US Open, reaching the quarter-finals before Shelton defeated him in a final-set 10-point tiebreak after 3.30am local time.
Shelton hires Ferrero
Last week, the 24-year-old Shelton announced he would be hiring Ferrero ahead of the 2027 season. It has been just six days since news of the Shelton and Ferrero partnership broke.
Alcaraz worked with the Spanish coach for seven years before they split last December, winning six of his seven Grand Slam titles with Ferrero in his corner. The 46-year-old will not join Shelton's team until the off-season but is expected to watch him in action at the upcoming ATP Finals.
Final showdown
Before that, Alcaraz will try to avenge his late-night loss to Shelton at the US Open when the two meet in the Paris Masters final.
