Henderson Injury 'Really Bad' as England Star Hospitalized

Jordan Henderson was taken to hospital after suffering a wrist injury during England's World Cup victory celebrations against Mexico, with manager Thomas Tuchel describing the incident as 'really bad.'

Injury During Celebrations

The 36-year-old midfielder was carried off on a stretcher after falling awkwardly while attempting to leap over advertising hoardings at the Azteca Stadium. The injury occurred as England players were singing 'Wonderwall' with traveling fans following their 3-2 win over the tournament co-hosts. Henderson was given oxygen and received medical treatment on the pitch, with teammates forming a protective huddle around him.

Defender Dan Burn signaled for medics after Henderson was seen lying on the ground in agony by one of the advertising hoardings. Footage of the incident, shared on social media, captured the moment Henderson fell after jumping over the hoardings.

Tuchel's Update

England manager Thomas Tuchel gave a frank update on Henderson's condition after the match. 'Not good, not good. Jordan just fell over and injured his wrist. It looks really bad,' Tuchel told the BBC's Kelly Somers. In his post-match press conference, Tuchel added: 'He injured his wrist, he's gone to hospital. It's quite a serious injury. It doesn't fit with the night. I don't know if there will be a procedure.'

Teammates React

England captain Harry Kane initially downplayed fears, telling the BBC: 'Jordan just fell over there, I think he's okay, just something to do with his arm.' However, teammate Jude Bellingham admitted Henderson was 'in a bit of bother,' adding: 'But the medical team have got everything under control. Best to not give too much detail when I don't know too much what's going on, but everyone was there to support him and even that was a beautiful thing to see.'

Match Context

The game was delayed for an hour due to severe thunderstorms ahead of kick-off. England took a 2-0 lead in the first half after Jude Bellingham scored a quickfire brace. Julián Quiñones pulled one back for Mexico shortly before half-time. England were reduced to 10 men minutes into the second half when Jarell Quansah received a straight red card for a dangerous tackle. Harry Kane made it 3-1 from the penalty spot after Anthony Gordon was fouled, but Raul Jimenez closed the gap to 3-2 with a successful spot-kick of his own. Despite a frantic final 20 minutes, England held on to advance to the quarter-finals, where they will face Norway.
