Chelsea forward Cole Palmer has broken his silence on being left out of England's World Cup squad, insisting he holds no grudge and hopes to see his teammates 'go all the way' in the tournament.
Palmer was a surprise exclusion from Thomas Tuchel's travelling party, with Morgan Rogers, Noni Madueke and Jude Bellingham preferred despite Palmer's talent. The decision sparked debate, especially after England's goalless draw with Ghana, where pundits suggested Palmer could have unlocked the defence.
Palmer's Reaction to Snub
Speaking to i-D Magazine, Palmer said: 'This season hasn't been the best, but it is what it is. I'm not crying over a decision you can't change, and I hope the lads make it all the way.' He added that he will watch the matches if not busy.
The 23-year-old has been spotted holidaying in Ibiza, using the break to recharge after an injury-plagued campaign. He is looking ahead to the new Premier League season under recently-appointed Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso.
Focus on Chelsea Revival
Palmer backed himself to return to top form under Alonso. 'I'm going to relax this summer, rest for the first time in 3 or 4 years, before getting back to what I love,' he said.
He acknowledged the ups and downs of football: 'You can do something one game and not the next, and they'll be on you. That's how it works. I just try to not pay attention to the outside noise and just do what I do.'
England's World Cup campaign continues as they aim for their first title since 1966, while Palmer prepares for a pivotal season at Stamford Bridge.
