Caitlin Clark is on the verge of a one-game suspension after picking up her seventh technical foul of the season during the Indiana Fever's 123-88 win over the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in the third quarter at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. With the Fever leading 95-67 and about 30 seconds left in the period, Clark was knocked by Sun guard Saniya Rivers. Clark reacted angrily, and after Rivers made a comment, Clark pointed at her face and said, "Check the f***ing scoreboard." Both players received technical fouls.
Clark Addresses the Incident
After the game, Clark explained: "She said she was locking me up, so I said, 'Scoreboard,' and the ref didn't like that. That fire is what makes me, me." When asked about a potential suspension for an eighth technical, she replied, "You gotta ask the magic 8 ball."
Coach Weighs In
Head coach Stephanie White commented on Clark's technical fouls: "She knows. She has awareness about it. We'll try to help her when we can, but sometimes we can't. And if she wants to be strategic about which game she doesn't want to play, then she'll let 'er fly."
Record Performance
Clark finished with 27 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including five three-pointers, and 11 assists in 27 minutes. She became the first player in WNBA history to record 25 points and 10 assists in under 30 minutes twice. Kelsey Mitchell (23 points) and Aliyah Boston (22 points) joined Clark as the league's top trio in shared 20-point games. The victory improved the Fever to 17-10.
