Australia v Netherlands live: The Netherlands, tournament debutants, meet Australia for the first time at Southampton’s Rose Bowl and must rebound from their 55-run defeat by India. On the same Headingley pitch earlier, Australia remained unbeaten after Sophie Molineux’s side made light work of a 78-run chase with a clinical performance in their second Group 1 game, thrashing Bangladesh by nine wickets in less than 10 overs. England v New Zealand live: England’s buildup to the Oval was unsettling, given five changes to a winning team from Lord’s and an unplanned replacement of captain. While Ben Stokes is 275 miles away at Durham – an unintended consequence of his curfew-breaking night out in London – Joe Root has been left to lead an inexperienced XI, including three debutants. So far, this second Test has fairly reflected that turmoil in the England camp. From the short to long, and Saturday’s climax also includes the longest race of the British Flat racing season, the Queen Alexandra Stakes (6.10pm), which is open to horses over three years old and run over 2 miles, 5 furlongs, and 143 yards. County Championship live: Tanya Aldred is stationed at Chester-le-Street with all the action from day two of the championship. She will be on Ben Stokes watch as Durham take on Northants, along with regular updates from all the other eight fixtures. That includes the big West Country showdown, with Somerset hosting Warwickshire and both counties eyeing the summit going into a near two-month break for the championship.

Netherlands v Sweden live: Graham Potter took charge of Sweden in October, with both coach and team in need of a reset. Now they are one result away from the knockout stage. The Swedes hammered Tunisia 5-1 in their opening game in Mexico to seize control of Group F, after the Netherlands were held 2-2 by Japan. Sweden will clinch qualification for the last 32 if they beat the Dutch in Houston. If they win and Japan fail to beat Tunisia, Sweden will top the group. Germany v Côte d’Ivoire live: The Group E match in Toronto will be the first real test for Germany, who crushed Curaçao 7-1 in their opener and are now on a 10-game winning run, but well aware of what is up next. Their defence will have to stop the powerful 19-year-old Yan Diomande if they are to make it two wins in a row and advance to the knockout stage for the first time since 2014. The teenager scored his first professional goal just 13 months ago when he was playing for Leganés in Spain and got his breakthrough with a move to RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga in July 2025. He racked up 12 Bundesliga goals and eight assists in his first season with the German club and has become a major transfer target for top European sides. US Open: Scott Murray has all the latest third-round action from Shinnecock Hills as his rolling liveblog keeps tabs on Scottie Scheffler’s attempts to complete a career grand slam. The world No 1 has the knack of bringing his best to the big events as his joint-14th at Aronimink last month was the first time he had not made at least the top 10 in his past seven majors. He has four top-seven US Open finishes in his last five outings at an event regarded as the toughest test in golf. The challenging course on Long Island, New York, has been throwing up all sorts of weather to thwart Scheffler’s efforts, and he shot a two-over 72 in a windswept opening round. Women’s T20 World Cup 6.30pm
England v Scotland live: England will be without their captain, Nat Sciver-Brunt, for the next two group matches and so will miss Saturday’s clash with Scotland. Charlie Dean will lead her unbeaten side in her absence in this Group B fixture at Headingley. The Scots missed their chance against West Indies in midweek and will be eager to show their neighbours they are no pushovers. Curaçao v Ecuador and Japan v Tunisia live: Ecuador face Curaçao in Kansas City knowing that even at this early stage, the stakes are already rising for both sides after opening-round defeats. Drawn alongside Germany and Côte d’Ivoire in Group E, Ecuador arrived at the tournament as one of South America’s more quietly fancied teams, built on defensive discipline. But their campaign began with frustration: a 1-0 defeat by Côte d’Ivoire. Sebastián Beccacece’s team must respond, with anything less than three points leaving them facing an uphill battle heading into their final group game against Germany. Then Tunisia will throw the new coach, Hervé Renard, straight into the deep end when they face Japan in Monterrey, with the north African side desperately needing points after their tournament got off to a nightmare start. Spain v Saudi Arabia live: Spain’s shock 0-0 draw with Cape Verde was a wake-up call for the European aristos, and they will be hoping to find the target at the very least against Saudi Arabia. The team in dark green pulled off a stunning 2-1 victory over the eventual champions, Argentina, at the 2022 World Cup and opened this campaign with a creditable 1-1 draw against Uruguay. The reigning European champions were frustrated by Cape Verde. Spain had almost 75% possession, with Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams playing only a fraction of the game, and they will lean on them for their second game. Belgium v Iran live: Belgium’s attempts to make amends for recent tournament disappointments began with a frustrating 1-1 draw against Egypt in Seattle, as Rudi Garcia’s side failed to justify their billing as Group G favourites in their opener. Iran began their campaign with a 2-2 draw against New Zealand in Los Angeles. Ramin Rezaeian was Iran’s talisman, scoring their first equaliser before delivering the pinpoint cross that led to their second. But Iran’s off-pitch turmoil is casting a pall over their tournament. US Open live: Scott Murray is on hand to guide golf fans through the final round at Shinnecock Hills at the helm of our rolling liveblog. Bryan Armen Graham reports from the New York course where in 2004 the South African Retief Goosen won his second US Open. The carnage at the climax meant no player finished under par for the first time since 1963 and the average final-day score was 78.7, more than eight shots over par.

Cape Verde v Uruguay live: Cape Verde are one of the feelgood stories of this expanded World Cup. The tiny island nation stunned Spain by earning a point against the European champions that few expected in their opening game as Vozinha, their 40-year-old goalkeeper, took centre stage with crucial saves. Vozinha has since become a social media star, and his mother has been granted a visa to enter the United States in time for his next match.
