Tiger Woods Arrested After Florida Car Crash, Released on Bail

Tiger Woods was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after his Land Rover overturned in a crash near his home on Jupiter Island, Florida, on Friday. The 50-year-old golf star was released on bail hours later, according to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek.

The incident occurred shortly before 2pm on a narrow two-lane road with a 30mph limit. Woods was attempting to overtake a truck that was slowing to turn into a driveway when his vehicle clipped a trailer, veered off, and came to rest on its driver's side. The sheriff described Woods's speed as a 'high rate of speed'. Woods was alone and exited through the passenger side.

Investigators said Woods showed signs of impairment and was subjected to roadside tests. A breath test showed no alcohol in his system, and authorities believed impairment was due to medication or drugs. No substances were found in the vehicle. Woods refused a urinalysis test and was charged with DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. No injuries were reported.

Former US President Donald Trump, who called Woods a 'close friend', expressed sympathy. 'I feel so badly,' Trump said. 'He's got some difficulty... He's a very close friend of mine... an amazing person, an amazing man.' Woods confirmed last year he was in a relationship with Trump's former daughter-in-law, Vanessa Trump.

This is the latest in a series of traffic incidents involving Woods. In 2021, he suffered severe leg injuries in a high-speed SUV crash in Los Angeles. He was arrested in 2017 on a DUI charge after being found asleep behind the wheel, and in 2009, he crashed his SUV into a fire hydrant and tree outside his home. Woods has played a limited schedule recently due to injuries and surgeries, and his participation in upcoming tournaments remains uncertain.
