Scotland Women will face England in the Rugby World Cup quarter-finals after a 45-17 defeat to Canada in Exeter. The result confirmed Scotland's progression from Pool B, but they were outclassed by a dominant Canadian side that scored six tries.
Canada hooker Emily Tuttosi crossed twice to earn player of the match honours, while Scotland's tries came from Rhona Lloyd, Evie Gallagher and Fran McGhie. Despite the loss, Scotland head coach Bryan Easson praised his team's improvement: 'That was the second-best team in the world. I think the last time they conceded that many points was against the Black Ferns.'
Scotland lock Sarah Bonar, who earned her 50th cap in the match, acknowledged the challenge ahead: 'We showed we can compete against the best in the world. The difference was any mistake we made, they punished us.' Looking ahead to the quarter-final against England, she added: 'It's not impossible: it will be fun. Let's just go and throw the kitchen sink at it.'
Canada, who remain unbeaten in the tournament, will face Australia in their quarter-final. Canada head coach Kévin Rouet said: 'Nothing was perfect, but happy with the win. You have to face England to win the World Cup, whether it's quarter-final or final.'
