The rugby league world is united in grief after the devastating news that South Sydney Rabbitohs junior player, Johannes Logan, has tragically died at the age of 19.
A Club in Mourning
Coaches, teammates, and the Rabbitohs club itself shared heartfelt tributes on social media following the announcement of his passing. The club released an official statement confirming the loss, describing Johannes as a "much-loved member of the Rabbitohs, willing to support his team-mates and the Club on and off the field."
Originally from Orange in central west New South Wales, Logan was a multi-talented athlete who also excelled at water polo and was an aspiring swimmer. He attended the prestigious St Joseph’s College in Hunters Hill, where he captained the school's senior swimming team.
A Promising Career Cut Short
Logan's potential in rugby league was immense. Having initially played rugby union, he switched codes and quickly made his mark as a powerful forward. He was selected for the South Sydney Jersey Flegg Cup squad for the 2026 season, following his appearances in the club's SG Ball under 19s and under 21s sides in 2025.
His talent was recognised at a state level, having represented New South Wales. Coaches and teammates praised not only his skill and fearless approach on the field but also his integrity, passion, and determination.
Off the field, he was remembered for his warmth, kindness, and strong character, acting as a supportive and positive presence within the team.
An Outpouring of Support
The news has sent shockwaves through the sporting community, prompting an immediate and generous response. A GoFundMe page set up to support the Logan family had raised over $60,000 at the time of writing.
Notable donations included $250 from South Sydney captain Cameron Murray, demonstrating the profound impact of the loss on the entire club. Former Rabbitohs forward Jacob Host also contributed.
The club's statement emphasised that the Rabbitohs, the RLPA, the NRL, and St Joseph’s College are supporting Johannes' family, friends, and teammates during this incredibly difficult time, requesting privacy for them as they grieve.
