MLB Clears Sean Hjelle After Investigation into Wife's Abuse Allegations
MLB Clears Sean Hjelle After Abuse Probe

Major League Baseball has officially closed its investigation into allegations against former San Francisco Giants pitcher Sean Hjelle, clearing the player of any wrongdoing following accusations made by his wife, Caroline Hjelle. The league will not be taking any further disciplinary action against the athlete.

Social Media Allegations and MLB Response

The controversy began last June when Caroline Hjelle posted a video on TikTok containing serious allegations against her husband. In the emotional clip, which has since been removed from the platform, Caroline accused Sean Hjelle of infidelity and abusive behaviour, claiming he had abandoned her and their two sons.

"When my MLB husband abandons us on Mother's Day a week after this [video was taken] once I finally found out about his affairs and stopped putting up with his abuse so I've been raising two boys alone," Caroline wrote in her now-archived social media post.

Investigation Details and Outcome

MLB launched a formal probe into the allegations shortly after they surfaced publicly. According to reports from NBC Sports Bay Area, the league has now concluded its investigation and cleared Hjelle of any violations of MLB's policies. No further action will be taken against the pitcher.

Caroline later explained she had "archived" the controversial TikTok video due to legal considerations, though she maintained her position on the allegations. "I still stand by everything in that post and am incredibly grateful and extremely overwhelmed by the support," she commented. "It means more than you'll ever probably know."

Relationship Status and Career Developments

Following the allegations, Sean Hjelle addressed the situation with reporters, revealing that the couple had been separated for over a year and were engaged in divorce proceedings. The pair had married in November 2021 in a private ceremony in Richmond, Virginia, where their eldest son served as ringbearer.

"I don't have an official comment right now," Hjelle stated at the time. "I would like to talk to my agent, my lawyer. This has been something that has been going on for over a year now in terms of our relationship, our divorce, our separation and everything."

The pitcher emphasized he was consulting with his professional advisors before making any formal statement, adding: "I feel confident saying that I will have one eventually. I don't have an exact timeline on that, but I would like to actually get with the people that are handling the situation with me and for me before I actually make an official statement."

Professional Baseball Journey

A native of Fridley, Minnesota, Hjelle established himself as a promising talent during his college years, earning Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Year honours at the University of Kentucky in 2017. The San Francisco Giants selected him in the second round of the 2018 MLB Draft.

Despite showing promise in the minor leagues, Hjelle's major league career faced challenges. After pitching well enough at Triple-A Sacramento to earn a call-up to San Francisco last season, he struggled during his time with the Giants, posting a 7.80 ERA across 12 appearances before being returned to the minors mid-season.

Hjelle became a free agent at the conclusion of the 2025 season and has since signed with the Orix Buffaloes in Japan's professional baseball league, marking a new chapter in his professional career following the resolution of the MLB investigation.
