Manchester City are less than three weeks away from their first competitive fixture of the season. Arsenal await on Sunday, August 16 in the Community Shield and beating their title rivals on Enzo Maresca's debut would be a huge statement of intent heading into the campaign.
Two key players left the Etihad Stadium this summer: Bernardo Silva and John Stones, both at the end of their deals, along with manager Pep Guardiola.
Six players' contracts are due to expire at the end of the coming season. MEN Sport has taken a look at when every City player's deal runs out.
2027
Six players will be out of contract next year. The headline name is Rodri. City's World Cup winner has been the talk of the transfer window since leading Spain to glory in North America. A contract offer is currently on the table for the midfielder, but he has yet to sign it. If he were to leave, Real Madrid are currently leading the race to sign him. Maresca was unfazed by the interest in Rodri last week, claiming the midfielder will be returning to City once he has recovered from an operation.
Mateo Kovacic and Jack Grealish are also entering the final year of their contracts. Kovacic recovered from a long-term injury last season while Grealish was on loan at Everton. Both men could be given opportunities to impress under Maresca.
Third-choice goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli is also out of contract but should receive a new deal unless circumstances change dramatically. Meanwhile, Josh Wilson-Esbrand and Issa Kabore are out of contract having spent last season at Radomiak Radom and Wrexham respectively.
2028
Josko Gvardiol is among the players with two years left on his deal. However, the defender is close to agreeing a new contract with City to end any fears that he might leave.
Jeremy Doku and Matheus Nunes will be expecting contract offers sooner rather than later. The duo became key players last season for City and should their form continue to impress this season, Maresca is bound to be keen to keep them both.
Kalvin Phillips still has two years left on his City deal. It is unlikely he will stay at the Etihad Stadium for that long having spent last season at Sheffield United on loan.
Claudio Echeverri was at Girona last season and will be expected to leave on loan again this summer. If the 20-year-old catches the eye, he could return to City with a new purpose for the 2027/28 campaign.
2029
Ruben Dias leads the quartet with three years on their contract remaining. Dias has attracted interest from Real Madrid recently and while injuries scuppered him last season, he remains a leader in the City dressing room.
Omar Marmoush and Nico Gonzalez are both facing uncertain futures and they could both do with good pre-seasons. Gonzalez may gain more minutes this season if Rodri is sold. But you would expect Marmoush may have to settle for fleeting chances from the bench.
Vitor Reis is another who spent time at Girona last season. He made no secret of his desire to return to City to make his mark on the first-team. But another loan seems likely this summer.
2030
A handful of stars have four years left on their contracts including Phil Foden, who signed his new deal last week. Fellow midfielders Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki have just ended their first season at the Etihad Stadium, albeit doubts are already circulating about the former's future.
Goalkeepers Gianluigi Donnarumma and James Trafford have healthy contracts. The Italian established himself as No.1 last season and this has left Trafford searching for first-team opportunities elsewhere. Leeds are currently in pole position to sign him.
Left-back is well covered with Rayan Ait-Nouri and Nico O'Reilly committed to another four years, at least. Meanwhile on the opposite flank, Rico Lewis has a long-term contract too. He struggled for minutes last season though and Premier League clubs have shown interest in him previously.
Finally, young centre-back Max Alleyne has a lengthy deal. He was recalled at the start of the year due to an injury crisis but should be loaned out again this summer.
2031
January signings Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi agreed five-and-a-half year deals at the start of 2026 and are not leaving any time soon. Over the weekend, Abdukodir Khusanov signed a new contract to commit his long-term future to City.
Summer signing Jeremy Monga was handed a lengthy contract and, should he live up to the hype, could stay at City long after 2031. £116m new recruit Elliot Anderson also has a five-year deal and will be the future of City's midfield.
Juma Bah has spent his City career so far on loan after joining the Blues in January 2025. Another loan for him this summer would not be surprising.
Meanwhile, winger Savinho is on the radar of Tottenham and could leave despite having five years left on his contract.
2034
Finally there is Erling Haaland. His whopping contract extension in 2025 means he has eight years left on his deal. Real Madrid hold a long-term interest in the Norwegian striker but they would need to pay a hefty fee to sign him. Haaland is happy at the Etihad Stadium and there is no suggestion he would want to leave in the near future.
